11 Chips to Try and Foods to Eat Them With
My list of chips to try to help you figure out what you like
With so many flavors and brands of chips out there, it is tough to figure out what flavors to try. So to help with that, I made a nice list of 11 chips to try and foods to eat them with.
As a disclaimer, many, if not all of these flavors I mention are made by other companies as well, I am simply using the brand I usually get of that flavor. Feel free to try these flavors by other brands if you would prefer.
#1. Cheddar and Sour Cream – Ruffles
These are my favorite chips, so of course I put them first on my list. A nice crunchy chip, with a great cheesy flavor. They go especially well with grilled cheese sandwiches and are my go to if I’m just looking to snack.
#2. Original – Pringles
If you have read my last article, (Which I highly recommend that you do), then you know that I believe original flavored chips don’t always get the love that they deserve, so I thought I would mention my favorite original flavor. Original flavored Pringles are like the spice you add to your meals, you could totally eat your meal without it, but it adds to the flavor. I would highly recommend eating these with a peanut butter and jelly or a ham and cheese sandwich.
#3. Nacho Cheese – Doritos
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Jake, everybody and their mother has had Nacho Cheese Doritos, why even bother bringing them up” And well, you’re right, but this isn’t a list of chips nobody has tried before, this is: 11 Chips to Try and Foods to Eat Them With. So, for these chips, I would recommend eating them with a hamburger or cheeseburger. You can eat them on the side or on the burger itself, but the taste of the nacho cheese really brings out the taste of the burger. (My favorite way to eat them is putting them on top of the burger and adding a little bit of ranch)
#4. Salt and Vinegar – Lays
Have you ever wanted to eat a spoonful of salt and then wash it down with a shot of vinegar?? Well now you can with Salt and Vinegar chips! I’m not a big fan of these chips, but enough people tell me they love them that I thought I should add them to the list. In all seriousness, they aren’t anywhere near as bad as eating actual salt and vinegar would be, and I would recommend trying them if you haven’t. It is worth noting though, that like original they are more for adding flavor.
#5. Harvest Cheddar – Sun Chips
I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Sun Chips. (Granted I don’t really ever ask anyone if they do.) Despite being a cheese flavor, these go really well with cheesy foods. My personal favorite being a grilled cheese sandwich. But, you also can’t go wrong with a classic peanut butter and jelly.
#6. Garden Salsa – Sun Chips
Like I said, a lot of people like Sun Chips. Although I’m not a huge fan of this flavor, I can see why people enjoy them. The chip is a little spicy, which I think helps it, and makes it stand out. From what I’ve been told, it is a good sandwich chip, with turkey and chicken sandwiches being some good options.
#7. Popcorners – Any flavor
I’ve only recently become aware that these chips exist, and well, if you like popcorn I think you’ll like these. They are popcorn chips, that’s really all you need to know. There’s kettle corn, sea salt, and a few other flavors, any of which are a good snack. Basically if you want to try crunchy popcorn, you should try these. Good for a snack, or while watching a movie.
#8. Sour Cream and Onion – Lays
I think Lays’ Sour Cream and Onion is slightly better than Pringles’, but I would recommend trying both. This flavor isn’t extremely strong, which is great, and allows for it to mix well with other tastes. My suggestion for these chips would be eat them with a hamburger or hot dog, they’re a fairly decent party chip option as well.
#9. Original – Sun Chips
Whoops, I added another Sun Chip flavor, how did that happen? Original Sun Chips are simply different than other original flavors and you just need to try them to understand. They are pretty hit-or-miss on whether people love them or just think they’re alright, however I have yet to eat these chips with something and not enjoyed it. (In fact, I ate some with a bowl of mac & cheese earlier today)
#10. Pizza – Pringles
I’m not quite sure anybody ever asked for a pizza flavored chip, but Pringles sure did a good job of making one. Pringles has some cool and interesting flavors, such as Ranch, Buffalo Ranch, and jalapeño, so if you like that kind of thing I would recommend looking into Pringles. That being said, pizza chips are surprisingly good with pizza, but I would recommend going the sandwich route with these first.
Chip #11
While I sat debating on suggesting barbecue chips, lime chips, or even the fourth and final Sun Chip, I realized that picking an 11th must try flavor was going to be much more difficult than I had originally planned. So… I did what any normal 21-year-old college student would do. I said “I’ll get to that later.”
Then later came… and I figured out exactly which chip I wanted to be Chip #11.
#11. Tortilla Chips
I decided that I had to include tortilla chips, they are another chip that go well with a lot of things. Dip them in salsa or queso for a nice snack. They also are good for parties due to their versatility, and you can even make them yourself.
There are way too many brands and flavors to list all the chips that you should try, but I think these eleven will help to give you a good idea of what kind of chips you like, so go try some chips!
And as I always say…
It’s Crunch Time
You did such a good job of showing personality in this piece. Especially when you talk about the salt and vinegar chips. A lot of the chips you chose were favorites of mine and you did a great job of expanding on them.
while I do feel personally attacked by your remarks on salt and vinegar chips (my favorite chips) I do like the rest of your list. I liked that you had the list and then provided ways to enjoy the chips to their fullest potential.
